There are various types of Clowns recognized by the official clowning community.

They include, but are not strictly limited to:

–Mimes:  Elegant – non-verbal

–Classic White Face:  Elegant – verbal

–Straight White Face:  A bit more colorful

–Grotesque White Face:  Exaggerated features

–Classic Tramp:  More flesh tone with sooty overtones

–Vagabond/Hobo:  Elegant Tramp

–Bag Lady:  Female Tramp / Vagabond

Note – The Tramp began as a uniquely American addition to clowning.

–The Auguste:  Hybrid of White Face & Tramp

Auguste example – Coco

–Clandestine:  Not discernible by appearance (usually)

Clandestine example – politicians, media shills
