Mortuary Wax, also known as Corpse Wax or Grave Wax, is formed through the chemical process of saponification during which body tissue fat is transformed by anaerobic bacterial hydrolysis into a waxy substance instead of breaking down through putrefaction.

This substance is also known as adipocere.
